A new and exciting journey awaits you- you’re moving! While this is an exciting time, it can also become stressful and overwhelming if not planned in advance. Here at Meehan’s Family Moving, we’ve moved different families across the country for over 50 years. Along the way, we’ve narrowed down our top list of tips and tricks to future movers before the big moving day arrives. Plan for moving day to ease stress and allow you to focus more on the excitement of starting a new adventure.

7 Recommendations For a Smooth Moving Day:

1.) Pack in advance

While this may seem like an obvious tip, it’s one that many people don’t focus on enough. On moving day you’re going to have a lot going on that needs your attention- don’t have packing be one of them! Packing up for a move is a tiring process, so leave enough time before your moving day to make sure you’re ready to go.

2.)Manage enough time for a good night’s sleep

Moving day is both mentally and physically exhausting throughout the day. Tackle your moving day with energy and excitement by planning in advance to leave enough time for a good night of sleep. Your mind and body will thank you the next day when you feel well-rested and ready to navigate the moving day.

3.)Keep a checklist

There’s a lot going on during moving day where plans are changing as the day progresses. Because of this, it’s a good idea to write out a checklist of everything to complete before the end of the day. This will serve as a reference throughout the day and give you peace of mind that you’re not forgetting anything!

4.)Section off a “no pack zone”

Depending on where you’re moving, and what you’ll need on your journey there, section off a small area of your home designated for items that will not be going on the truck, but are still going with you to your new home. Carry-on luggage, as well as clothing and shoes for future travel, should go in this area so they don’t make it onto the moving truck by accident. Make sure you alert your movers to not move anything in the designated area!

5.)Label everything

Many homeowners tend to focus most of their attention on getting their items to their new home’s location. But, you can save yourself lots of energy by planning ahead of time for what happens after you and your belongings arrive at your new destination. Label the room that each box belongs inside of with a permanent marker that is clearly visible for when you’re unpacking.

6.)Confirm logistics

It never hurts to double-check! Before the moving truck leaves with your items, make sure to confirm the drop-off address as well as making sure the contact information the movers have for you is correct and up to date.

7.)Choose a dependable moving company

This may be the most important tip for ensuring a smooth move- you need a moving company you can depend on! With 50+ years of experience and excellent customer reviews, Meehan’s Family Moving is dedicated toward providing you with a great move, starting with moving day!
